Southern Market Flensburg – Historic Marketplace

The Southern Market is one of the historic main marketplaces in Flensburg and is located directly next to St. Nicholas Church. Historic buildings, the weekly market, and the central location make the square a popular meeting point and starting point for a city tour.

Südermarkt Flensburg – Historical Marketplace in the Heart of the Old Town

The Südermarkt in Flensburg is one of the two historical main marketplaces of the city and is located in the midst of the Flensburg Old Town. Its history dates back to around 1200, when one of the early settlement cores of Flensburg developed around the St. Nikolaikirche.

Today, the spacious square is characterized by the imposing St. Nikolaikirche, historical residential and commercial buildings, as well as the adjacent pedestrian zone. Noteworthy is the building at Südermarkt 12: The merchant's house built around 1490 is considered the oldest preserved secular building in Flensburg and now houses the Nikolai Pharmacy.

The Südermarkt is still a lively meeting place today. Twice a week, a weekly market takes place here, where regional vendors offer their goods. Events and seasonal markets also make this historical square an important part of life in Flensburg.

Due to its central location, the Südermarkt Flensburg is an ideal starting point for a city walk. From here, the Holm, the Rote Straße, and other historical streets lead directly through the Old Town. The St. Nikolaikirche and numerous sights are also just a few steps away.
