FROM INDUSTRIAL SITE TO MUSEUM CULTIVATED INDUSTRIAL HISTORY
The copper mill is one of the oldest industrial monuments. Here you can see the workers’ old time stamp clock, a comprehensive collection of candle lanterns, water kettles, “Flensburg bins”, baking forms and historical documents and photographs from the mill’s nearly 400 year history. To power the iron hammer mill, hydropower was harvested from the Krusau River, which opened into the Flensburg Firth, in as early as 1600. It was established by Christian IV, King of Denmark and Norway. The mill began producing copper sheets for roofing Danish palaces and decorating the hulls of wooden ships in 1633.
