Schackenborg Castle has been home to several princes and princesses. These days, they only come for a short visit. You can take a walk around the castle grounds and imagine where the royals might have sat with a cup of tea or played a garden game. The castle is named after count Hans Schack, who bought the buildings more than 350 years ago. For 11 generations, the castle was handed down from father to son. Or from mother to son. The evil countess, Anne Sophie Schack, survived her husband and was sovereign of Schackenborg and Gram Castle for many years. It is said that she killed her maid, and that is the reason why she cannot find peace and had to return to Gram Castle as a restless ghost. Or maybe it's just a story? The very last Count Schack had no children and therefore he handed the castle over to Prince Joachim of Denmark.
